From potent partnerships and chilling new developments to quick and crafty caffeinations, there’s so much more than java brewing at One Village Coffee. The Souderton-based roaster has embraced a new business model and new technologies that will strengthen its connection to growers, increase its production and broaden its product offerings.
In the fall of 2018, One Village Coffee announced its merger with Shared-X Impact Farming out of Lima, Peru. Through a network of hub farms, Shared-X models new technology and practices for small holder farmers in an effort to improve quality and product yields as well as cultivate transparency and participation along the entire market chain from growers to consumers.
"The Shared-X model gives small holder farmers access to technology, innovation, and the end consumer through a transparent supply chain," says Jess Lyle, Marketing Manager for One Village Coffee. "Our merger is a beautiful vision alignment that will support and bolster our impact story."
One Village Coffee’s initial offering sourced through Shared-X is Peru Finca Matapalo. The roaster will continue to work with other producers and gradually integrate more Shared-X coffees into its product line.
Peru Finca Matapalo is also the star of One Village Coffee’s other new partnership agreement with Bkon, innovator of RAIN technology for cold brew coffee. RAIN, or Reverse Atmospheric Infusion, draws out more of the natural flavors and retains the purity of the original ingredients. One Village Coffee will be releasing its cold brew in 12-oz cans at the end of May.
This third option for enjoying Peru Finca Matapalo may take longer to pronounce then it will take to make. One Village Coffee has also partnered with Sudden Coffee to offer its first specialty instant coffee. While it may be a throwback to the era of convenience, there is no comparison when it comes to the superior quality and taste that Sudden Coffee elicits through a proprietary process that gently captures complexity and flavor without the bitterness.
“Sudden Coffee is a leader in the industry who has put a new face on instant coffee,” says Jess. “One Village Coffee is the only coffee roaster in the Northeast to offer this. We think its perfect for traveling, camping and other favorite summer activities.”
