Wouldn’t life be better if more things tasted like Apple Pie? Well, get ready to upgrade your very existence. Apple Pie spread (as in, yes, you can spread it on anything) is the Flavor of the Month from Small Batch Kitchen, creators of superior spicy, savory and sweet spreads and more. Made from locally sourced ingredients, these spreads are low in sugar and salt and high in “Wow. That’s good.”
Small Batch Kitchen was founded by Sheila Rhodes in 2014. In an attempt to make her own life more self-sustainable, Rhodes began to preserve fruits and vegetables from her garden and develop recipes in which to use these stores. Her low-sugar fruit spreads were a big hit with family and friends as well as farmers’ market foodies. There was no turning back. Since then, Small Batch Kitchen has been growing strong.
“We tripled the amount of rhubarb we bought this year for our Strawberry Rhubarb spread and still ran out,” says Rachel Roades, sales, marketing and events manager for Small Batch Kitchen.
The good news is that Small Batch Kitchen will be expanding its manufacturing facilities with a new production facility, retail space and cafe in Lansdale, PA, expected to open this summer.
In the meantime, stop by Doylestown Food Market to get your fill of Small Batch Kitchen’s amazing variety of spreads, condiments and infused sea salts. Try naturally sweet fruit spreads like Raspberry, Brandied Pear, Blueberry Basil or Peach Ginger, (made with PA peaches!) to spicy selections like Cherry Bourbon Chipotle. Go off the grid with Curried Yellow Tomato Chutney or Roasted Garlic Whole Grain Mustard (Spoiler: Father’s Day gift idea). Kick up the flavor of any food with Italian Herb or Roasted Garlic infused Sea Salt.
Small Batch Kitchen supports local farmers and orchards in everything they make. And the closer the better according to Roades. To make a Small Batch Kitchen favorite, Balsamic Strawberry Spread, strawberries from Living Hope Farm in Harleysville are picked at the peak of ripeness and used the same day to make the delicious spread. (Nice Mother’s Day gift…just sayin’.)
